Subhash Chandra Garg, additional chief executive Officer (CEO), REC Power Distribution Company Limited (RECPDCL) brings to the table close to three decades of experience in the power sector. In his current role, he is responsible for implementing sustainable business models and undertaking human resource management at RECPDCL.
Over the years, RECPDCL has evolved significantly, he notes. Today, the company offers a wide range of services to its clients, besides providing end-to-end solutions in the distribution segment. It has also expanded into new verticals, including solar and hydropower.
Prior to joining RECPDCL, Garg worked with the Damodar Valley Corporation in varying capacities for close to two decades.
Commenting on the motivation to join the power sector, Garg says, “The power sector offers an opportunity to serve others. This makes work more meaningful and helps in contributing to the progress of the nation. Drawing inspiration from my father, a recipient of the Bhama Shah Award from the Rajasthan government for his work in the field of education, I am motivated to light up the lives of the poorest of the poor in the remotest villages.”
Looking back, Garg feels that his most memorable assignment was preparing a rural electrification plan for 34 districts (covering 120,000 habitations) in Rajasthan in a short span of a few months. “The plan was based on a field survey. To carry out this monumental task, each team of two engineers was equipped with a global positioning system instrument, a digital camera, a laptop, etc. The innovative application of a mix of in-house and advanced technologies to capture field demographics raised the benchmarks in the industry and established RECPDCL as the undisputed leader,” he says.
Garg strives to achieve goals through teamwork. He believes in recognising the skills and strengths of each team member for the benefit of the entire team. He is always open to new ideas and encourages independent thinking among his team members. He aspires to become a mentor to others and help them develop in their respective roles.
Garg is an electrical engineer by training. He enjoys reading books on management skills and emerging technologies, especially in the power sector. He also wishes to write a book on the power sector.
