New STATCOM assembly and test unit to boost RXPE capabilities in South Asia

The installation works for RXPE’s 5,200m2 STATCOM test and assembly unit are under way at Dankuni in West Bengal. The strategically located unit lies within the Kolkata metropolitan area, which is the manufacturing and trading hub of east India, right on the national highway network close to the international airport and major sea-ports. The unit will initially focus on the production and testing of a +300 MVar STATCOM for a Power Grid Corporation of India Limited project. Going forward, the unit will support the manufacturing, testing and after-sales service of the advanced flexible alternate current (AC) transmission systems (FACTS) devised and delivered by RXPE.

In addition, it will be capable of producing up to five or equivalent STATCOM/SVG sets per year. The facility will handle equipment for future projects in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Africa region. Lalit Tejwani, managing director, RXPE India, is responsible for overseeing the installation of the unit. The civil and installation works have been completed, and operations commenced in August 2016. RXPE expects to participate in an increasing number of engineering, procurement and construction projects for utilities, industry and railways.
