ABB has teamed up with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid) for an order valued at Rs 57 billion. Out of this, ABB has been awarded an order worth around Rs 43.5 billion for developing the Raigarh-Pugalur 800 kV ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) system, which will connect Raigarh in central India to Pugalur in Tamil Nadu. The remaining order will be executed by ABB’s consortium partner Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. The turnkey order includes design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning. The project will feature technologies for minimising the footprint of the transmission stations. The 1,830 km link will be among the longest in the world, with a capacity of 6,000 MW. The project is expected to be completed by 2019.
