An expert committee set up by the MoP

An expert committee set up by the MoP has suggested direct subsidy transfer for electricity consumption. The committee was set up for suggesting ways to increase electricity demand and consumption. The scheme, if implemented, is expected to reduce the subsidy burden of the central government, reduce losses and pilferage owing to the misuse of subsidy, and strengthen the discoms financially. The committee is likely to submit its report to the MoP by end January 2017.
