ADFD and IRENA provide $44.5 million funds for RE projects in various countries

Four renewable energy projects, being developed in the Marshall Islands, Niger, Seychelles and the Solomon Islands, have been identified by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and will be provided $44.5 million as funding assistance. The project being developed in the Marshall Islands is a hybrid microgrid project utilising solar photovoltaic and advanced lithium-ion batteries, whereas the one being set up in the Solomon Islands is a hydropower scheme. In Seychelles, the project that has been identified for this funding involves the integration of a solar plant with a wind farm, and that in Niger is a combination project consisting of microgrid and solar home kits. Spanning over seven funding cycles, the $350 million IRENA/ADFD project facility aims to support and enhance the developing world’s energy needs by tapping into their abundant renewable energy sources.
