Tata Power Company Limited has shelved

Tata Power Company Limited has shelved its plans to set up a coal-based power plant in Odisha. The company had initially planned to set up a 1,000 MW TPP in Cuttack. The location of the TPP was later shifted to the southern coast in Gopalpur. The reasons cited for shelving the project include deallocation of Tata Power’s Mandakini coal block as well as protests from environmentalists. The company had signed an MoU with the Odisha government for setting up the 1,000 MW TPP in September 2006 and had later proposed to scale up the capacity to 2,000 MW.
