Andhra Pradesh government awards 600MW of imported coal-based capacity

The Andhra Pradesh government has awarded 600 MW of imported coal-based capacity at a tariff of Rs 4.5 per unit in a recent Case I bidding round. Meenakshi Power and Simhapuri Energy have secured 200 MW and 400 MW of capacity respectively. The tender document had capped the fuel cost based on Indonesian coal prices to safeguard developers from fluctuations in global coal prices. On behalf of the two state discoms, Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited had issued the request for qualification for procuring 1,000 MW of electricity on a long-term basis on a design build-finance-own-operate basis from stations using imported coal in March 2015.
