The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved SJVN Limited’s Rs 57.24 billion 900 MW Arun-III hydropower project in Nepal. The project is expected to achieve financial closure by September 2017. SJVN secured the project through international competitive bidding and an MoU was signed between the Nepal government and SJVN in March 2008 to execute it on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT)basis for 30 years including five years of construction period. The project will provide 21.9 per cent free power to Nepal for 25 years and export surplus power to India.
