NTPC has commenced mining coal from its Pakri-Barwadih coal mine at Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. The company flagged off the first rake of coal from the mine on February 16, 2017. The mine has a total capacity of 18 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). Around 2-3 mt of coal is likely to be produced by 2018. Initially, one coal rake will be supplied daily to NTPC’s Barh thermal power plant (TPP) in Bihar and later other power plants will also be included.
