NTPC is planning to set up cement manufacturing units with capacity of 1 mtpa or above in the vicinity of its TPPs. The company recently issued an expression of interest seeking partners for the proposed initiative. The company’s move is aimed at meeting the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) norm for 100 per cent utilisation of fly ash and to create captive demand for electricity from cement units.
