Powergrid is likely to invest over Rs 1 trillion in the transmission sector in the next five years. The company intends to complete the construction of 4,750 km of transmission lines, seven substations and 14,000 MVA of transformation capacity during the quarter ended March 2017. In a separate development, Powergrid is reportedly seeking consulting and turnkey projects in railway electrification. The Indian Railways intends to electrify 24,000 km of railway lines in the next five years. Powergrid has already secured aRs 8.9 billion contract to electrify 761 km of railway lines.
