Nepal-India Joint Steering Committee to finaliseDPR for 400 kV cross-border link

The Nepal-India Joint Steering Committee has agreed to finalise the detailed project report (DPR) for the 400 kV cross-border Butwal–Gorakhpur transmission link between Nepal and India. The two countries will separately build the portion of the line that lies within their respective territories. The new link will help in distributing power efficiently to high energy-consuming cities like Bhairahawa, Butwal, Pokhara and Narayanghat, which are within easy reach. Moreover, the transmission line will help evacuate the surplus energy to be produced in the BudhiGandaki and Marshyangdi corridors once the various under-construction hydro projects are commissioned.
