Liberia government receives $42.48-million to facilitate implementation of Liberia Energy Efficiency and Access Project

Liberia’s energy ministry has received a $42.48 million combined loan and grant for facilitating the implementation of the Liberia Energy Efficiency and Access Project, which aims to increase the access to electricity from the current two per cent to six per cent by 2020 and strengthen the power sector. The project is being financed by the African Development Bank Group’s own resources from the African Development Fund, the Transition Support Facility, and the Nigeria Trust Fund. It will also receive funds from the European Union Africa Infrastructure Trust and the Global Environment Facility trust fund. The transmission segment of the project involves the construction of two DC overhead transmission lines at the Roberts International Airport and Monrovia.
