Pakistan to spend PKR 32 billion on GIS based substations

Pakistan’s Executive Committee of the National Economic Council has approved the conversion of the existing 220 kV substations to gas-insulated switchgear (GIS)-based substations at a cost of PKR 32 billion in Pakistan. Approval has been given for the conversion of the 220 kV Bandd Road, Kalashahkaku, Ravi and Nishatabad (district Lahore and Faisalabad) air-insulated switchgear substations to GIS substations. The GIS technology will improve efficiency and reliability of substation systems and reduce erosion and deterioration, thereby cutting down maintenance costs and frequent tripping. It will also increase power flow in the system by 684 MW.
