MoP in talks with government of Bihar to procure land for 4,000 MW Banka UMPP

The MoP is currently in talks with the Bihar government for procuring land for setting up the 4,000 MW Banka ultra mega power project in the state. In order to ensure a competitive cost of power from the proposed plant, the power ministry plans to adopt a calibrated approach. Coal blocks for the project have already been identified. In a separate development, following the MoP’s request, the Tamil Nadu government has agreed to source domestic coal from mines in Odisha instead of imported coal for the proposed 4,000 MW Cheyyur UMPP planned in the state.
