Sikkim signs MoU with central government under UDAY

The Sikkim government has signed an MoU with the central government under the Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY). Sikkim will earn an overall net benefit of about Rs 2.07 billion through the scheme by way of cheaper funds, reduction in aggregate technical and commercial losses as well as transmission losses, interventions in energy efficiency, etc. With the inclusion of Sikkim, the total number of states under UDAY has reached 22. In a related development, it is estimated that Rajasthan, Haryana and Chhattisgarh’s power utilities have made considerable savings of Rs 47 billion, Rs 7.66 billion and Rs 5.26 billion respectively under UDAY through a reduction in interest cost.
