Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) has collaborated with telecom equipment maker Nokia to modernise its electrical grid with an advanced communications network as part of its roadmap for smart grid implementation. Nokia has provided TPDDL with an internet protocol (IP)/multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) network for the management of its electrical grids in north and northwest Delhi. With this, TPDDL has become the first utility in India to implement teleprotection services using line-differential relay over an IP/MPLS network. In a separate development, TPDDL is planning to install 1,000 electric vehicle charging stations in Delhi over the next five years. The discom is in discussions with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for acquiring land for these stations.
