The state-owned Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) has awarded EPC contracts associated with the Qatar Power Transmission System Expansion Plan-Phase 13 to various domestic and international companies. The contracts for Phase 13 are for the supply and commissioning of transmission cables and substations. The contractors appointed for the construction of substations are Siemens AG & Siemens WLL consortium (Qatar), Larsen & Toubro (L&T) India, National Contracting Company (Saudi Arabia), Gulfar (Qatar) and Best & Betas Consortium (Turkey). The transmission cables contract was awarded to LS Cable and System (South Korea), L&T India, Furukawa (Japan) and Elsewedy Cables (Qatar and Egypt). The scope of the project includes the laying of 400 kV (36 km), 220 kV (47.5 km), 132 kV (285.8 km) and 66 kV (84 km) extra high voltage cables. It also entails the construction of 77 substations across Qatar, along with the upgradation of some existing substations. The project will help improve the power infrastructure in and around Doha.
