NTPC crosses 50 GW generation capacity mark

NTPC Limited has crossed the 50 GW generation capacity milestone with the commissioning of Unit 6 (500 MW) of the Unchahar coal-based power plant in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh. The company also recently commissioned the 660 MW Unit 1 of the Solapur super thermal power project (STPP) in Maharashtra. The total commissioned capacity of the NTPC Group now stands at 51,410 MW. In a separate development, NTPC has approved investments worth Rs 30.04 billion in the 18 million tonne (mt) Talaipalli coal mining project in Chhattisgarh. NTPC is expected to commence coal production from the Talaipalli block by November 2019. Coal requirement for the upcoming 1,600 MW Lara STPP in Chhattisgarh will be met from this block. The STPP will supply power to Chhattisgarh, Goa and Maharashtra.
