Taking forward India’s collaboration with the UK in the energy and power sector, Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, recently launched the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme in the UK. Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the administration of the Ministry of Power, will implement the scheme. EESL will invest Rs 8 billion over a period of three years for various energy efficiency initiatives in the UK. EESL is currently implementing seven energy savings contracts in the education and leisure sectors in the UK. In India, EESL has distributed over 230 million LED bulbs, impacting over 70 million beneficiaries till date.
