India’s position in global ranking

India recently moved up to the 26th rank in the World Bank’s global electricity accessibility rankings on the Ease of Doing Business Index. It was in the 99th position in 2014. According to the World Bank, to assess whether electricity supply in an economy is reliable or not, the first step for customers is to get a new connection. Thus, the “Getting Electricity” indicators can serve as a useful proxy for the overall performance of the electricity sector. In the latest round of data collected by the bank, in June 2016, economies were ranked based on procedures, time and cost required for a business to obtain a permanent electricity connection for a newly constructed warehouse.
