BERC approves tariff hike of 55 per cent for 2017-18

The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) has approved a tariff hike of 55 per cent for 2017-18 for various categories of power consumers in the state. The new charges have come into effect from April 1, 2017. This is the steepest hike by the commission in several years. BERC has stated that if the state government extends subsidy support to below poverty line and rural consumers, as specified in the MoU for UDAY, the tariff increase would decline to 28 per cent.
