CEA releases region wise implementation plan for FGD installation

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has released the region-wise implementation plan for flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) installation wherein it has provided a two-to five-year relaxation to over 300 TPPs from adhering to the new emission norms under the Environment Protection Act, 1986. The new norms were to come into effect from December 2017 but the industry sought extension from the MoEFCC. The ministry has, reportedly, agreed to look at TPPs on a case-by-case basis to defer the implementation of new emission standards. The CEA has framed a roadmap for the plants to install FGDs between 2020 and 2024.
