The Ministry of Power (MoP) is at an advanced stage of finalising the revised guidelines for group captive power plants (CPPs). The new guidelines are likely to change the definition of ownership of the group captive plants, which would require the developers to correct their equity holding in a limited time period. The revision of guidelines is following complaints against industries that were misusing the concept of group captive. The draft amendment to the policy was issued in October 2016. The ministry has temporarily suspended the conversion of independent power producers to group captive projects.
