The Punjab government has announced a tariff rate of Rs 5 per unit for the existing and new industries in the state. The move is expected to boost power demand in the industrial sector. The state government will release the new industrial policy by end-July 2017. In addition, the Punjab government plans to undertake a comprehensive programme to improve transmission and distribution systems as well as involve a third party to audit the power purchase accounts of the past five years. In a separate development, taking a cue from Punjab, the Haryana government has announced a concession of Re 1 per unit in electricity tariff to the industrial sector in the state.
