The Ministry of Coal (MoC) has stated that Eastern Coalfields Limited’s Rajmahal Opencast Project (OCP) will continue to supply coal to NTPC Limited’s 2,100 MW Kahalgaon and 2,340 MW Farakka TPPs throughout 2017. The statement was issued to clarify reports regarding a shortfall in coal supply to the two plants owing to land acquisition issues at the Rajmahal OCP. As per the MoC, the daily production of 25,000-30,000 tonnes of coal from the Rajmahal OCP will continue until end-June 2017. From July 2017 onwards, about 7 mt of coal will be made available at the Dahernangi patch. Further, over 20 mt of additional coal will be made available from Bhadotola.
