Rahul Mishra is chief executive officer (CEO) of Rays Future Energy India Private Limited, the recently incorporated subsidiary of Rays Power Infra Private Limited. The company focuses on distributed solar generation and solar energy-based products, energy storage as well as e-vehicles. In his current role, Mishra’s key priority is to ensure a significant presence for the company in each of its areas of operation.
In the past, Mishra has worked in the conventional and renewable energy sectors. His areas of expertise include equity and debt financing, fund-raising, project development, and contract management.
Mishra started his career with the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and later worked with various organisations such as Nereus Capital, AES India and GE Energy Financial Service. He holds a management degree from ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad.
Commenting on the country’s renewable energy sector, Mishra says, “The government has been at the fore for developing renewable capacity by aggressively setting standards and creating a conducive policy environment. In the coming years, there will be a focus on energy efficiency, growth in distributed generation, energy storage, smart power distribution network and e-vehicles. An ecosystem for these segments is currently being developed in the country and there is a lot of potential to scale it up in the next two to three years.”
Looking back, Mishra feels that his most memorable assignment was with PFC in 2005, as a member of the core group for coordinating the bidding process of ultra mega power projects, which were being developed for the first time in the country. He was involved in incorporating special purpose vehicles, hiring consultants, drafting bid documents and power purchase agreements, managing all stakeholders, government interactions and bid processes.
Mishra believes in letting people take ownership of their work. He encourages his team to consider each project as their own. He feels that it is important to create an environment where people think beyond their role and provide inputs for improving the overall performance of the company.
He likes to spend time with his family and goes for a holiday whenever possible. Mishra is also fond of cooking and his mantra for life is “love life and live life”.
