Nepal’s Ministry of Energy signs MoU with China to develop 1200 MW hydel project

In line with its effort to improve the country’s energy capacity, Nepal’s Ministry of Energy has signed anMoU with the China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) for the development of the 1,200 MW Budhigandaki hydroelectric project. Chinese financial institutions would be funding the project in the form of soft loan or commercial loan on terms and conditions that are acceptable to the Nepal government. If required, CGGC will conduct additional studies and investigations on the project. The entity is currently building the 30 MW Chameliya hydropower project (HPP) in the far west and the 60 MW Upper Trishuli 3A HPP in the central region of Nepal.
