New MERIT portal for power procurement by discoms

The Minisry of Power (MoP) has launched the MERIT (Merit Order Despatch of Electricity for Rejuvenation of Income and Transparency) portal for power procurement, developed jointly by the MoP, Power System Operation Corporation Limited and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The portal displays information on the merit order of electricity procured by states such as daily state-wise marginal variable costs of all generators, daily source-wise power purchases of respective states/union territories with source-wise fixed and variable costs, energy volumes and purchase prices. It also gives information on the reasons for deviation from the merit order, which will help the state discoms optimise their power procurement in a more efficient way, leading to a lower cost of power to consumers.
