The Union cabinet is reportedly planning to approve a new hydropower policy that would provide monetary support of Rs 167 billion for stalled hydro projects aggregating 11,639 MW. The policy has been sent to the Ministry of Finance. The proposed policy is expected to classify all hydro projects as renewable energy projects, thereby removing the distinction between small-and large hydro projects.
