Tunisia’s national utility SociétéTunisienne de l’Electricitéet du Gaz has awarded Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) and the Sumitomo Corporation a joint contract to build a 450 MW gas-fired power plant in Tunisia. Sumitomo will provide balance of plant, and handle the civil engineering and installation works whereas MHPS will supply a gas turbine, a heat recovery steam generator and a steam turbine, as well as provide technical support during installation and commissioning. The generators will be provided by the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. Finance for the $341 million project will be provided under the Japanese Official Development Assistance scheme. To be commissioned in 2020, the plant will provide around 10 per cent of Tunisia’s power.
