Local agitation in Darjeeling shuts down NHPC power projects in area

NHPC Limited’s 132 MW Teesta Low Dam Project (TLDP)-III and 160 MW TLDP-IV hydropower projects in Darjeeling, West Bengal, have been closed as precautionary measures owing to local agitation. Reportedly, the closure, which has been due to the Gorkhaland statehood movement, has resulted in heavy financial losses of Rs 25 million per day for the company. While the former project was commissioned in 2011, the latter was commissioned in 2016.
