Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy defines village electrification

According to a report by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy, a village should be considered as electrified only if all households in the village have access to power, contrary to the government’s prescribed threshold of 10 per cent families. Some other recommendations in the report include classifying all hydropower projects in the country irrespective of their capacity as a renewable source of energy. Further, it has pitched for the segregation of commercial and technical losses to reduce the quantum of these losses and proposed the creation of a pool of funds to execute research activities in the power sector from the profits of public sector undertakings in the energy sector.
