Sarawak awards contract for civil works on Balehhydel plant to Chinese-Malaysian JV

Sarawak Energy has awarded a contract to the joint venture of China’s Gezhouba Group Company Limited and Malaysia-based Untang Jaya SdnBhd for executing civil works of the 1,285 MW Baleh hydroelectric plant in Malaysia. The scope of the contract includes the construction of a dam on the Balehriver along with the intake structure, spillway and penstocks in Sarawak. Construction activities for the high concrete-faced rockfill dam are scheduled to commence in October 2018, and the project is expected to be fully commissioned in 2025.
