Private developers in a legal tiff with MPPCL over PPAs and solar project deadlines

ReNew Power Ventures Private Limited and Canada-based Sky Power are involved in a legal dispute with Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) over solar project deadlines and PPAs. MPPMCL has cancelled PPAs for two solar projects (50 MW each) of the Indian unit of Canada-based Sky Power citing that the company failed to execute the project within the given time frame. The company has approached the high court. In the case of ReNew Power, the state utility has approached the Supreme Court as the company failed to complete land acquisition by the allotted deadline. ReNew Power subsequently managed to complete the project on time but the state utility intends to renege on the conditions of the PPA. MPPMCL had earlier approached the high court which turned down its complaint.
