The Puducherry Electricity Department has initiated a project for installing smart meters for domestic consumers under the smart grid pilot project being implemented by the department in the union territory. China-based Dongfang Electric Corporation has been entrusted with the task of installing the meters at a total cost of Rs 461 million, with 50 per cent funding from the central government. The installation is expected to commence in October 2017.
