MoP formulates scheme to revive 34 stressed TPPs with a total debt of Rs 1.77 trillion.

The MoP is formulating a scheme to revive 34 stressed thermal power plants (TPPs) with a total capacity of 40,000 MW. The ministry is considering to pool the electricity demand of various states and invite tariff-based competitive bids for medium-term power procurement. This would allow developers with idle TPPs to sign PPAs for the medium term and help states to procure power at a competitive cost. These stranded projects have an aggregate debt of Rs 1.77 trillion.
