Government to issue stricter quality norms for solar equipments and components

The government plans to issue stricter quality norms for solar equipment and components, which would be eligible for sale only if they are registered and approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The new norms provide for the destruction of equipment that does not have the standard mark of the BIS. The norms are expected to encourage domestic manufacturers by discouraging the import of inferior Chinese equipment and will come into force one year after its publication in the official gazette.
