Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will procure 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) from Tata Motors Limited. The tender floated by EESL is the world’s largest single EV procurement. Tata Motors quoted the lowest price of Rs 1.12 million, which is 25 per cent below the current retail price of a similar e-car, with a three-year warranty. The company will supply EVs in two phases – the first 500 e-cars will be supplied to EESL in November 2017 and the rest will be delivered in the second phase. The e-cars will be used to replace the petrol and diesel cars used by the government and its agencies over a three-to four-year period.
