In a bid to develop the electric vehicle (EV) sector and reduce pollution, China will soon start phasing out fossil fuel cars. It has also set a 10 per cent minimum sales quota of new EVs (NEVs) comprising electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles for automakers for 2019. In 2020, the quota will rise to 12 per cent of the annual sales.
