India is collaborating with Russia for the construction of the 2,400 MW Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. This is the first Indo-Russian initiative to develop atomic energy projects in third world countries. The project is Bangladesh’s first atomic energy project and post-completion, the country will become the third South Asian country after India and Pakistan to harness nuclear energy for power generation. Earlier, in April 2017, India and Bangladesh signed a civil nuclear cooperation deal along with two more agreements pertaining to the supply and manufacturing of equipment for the power plant.
