KERC to approve previously signed PPAs only at the new tariffs

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has stated that the power purchase agreements (PPAs) between discoms and wind energy developers, which were signed earlier, will be approved only at new tariffs. The KERC passed an order on September 4, 2017, fixing the wind power tariff at Rs 3.74 per kWh for new projects, considerably lower than the tariff of Rs 4.50 per kWh, which was set by it in October 2015. It is estimated that the PPAs of developers for 599 MW of wind capacity (of which 273 MW has been commissioned while the rest is under-construction) are yet to be ratified by the KERC.
