Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has awarded a contract to Siemens for the supply of shunt reactors in Oman. The contract involves the installation of four shunt reactors for the Oman Electricity Transmission Company’s (OETC) 400 kV substations in Izki and Ibri. As part of the agreement, Siemens will provide manufacturing, design, engineering, testing and training services, along with the delivery of four 400 kV, 100 MVAr oil-filled shunt reactors to the site. Manufactured at the company’s transformer factory in Weiz, Austria, the reactors are scheduled for delivery in 2018. Oman faces rising demand for electricity, driven by population growth and increased industrial activity led by the oil, gas and petrochemicals sector. OETC has an ambitious plan to strengthen the main electricity transmission lines across the Sultanate to facilitate greater linkage between the country’s energy networks.
