TANESCO to boost power supply in Ruvuma, Tanzania

State-owned Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) is all set to increase the supply of power to investors in Ruvuma, Tanzania. The company is in the process of concluding construction of the 220 kV Makambako–Songea transmission line in the region. Estimated to cost $76 million, the 333 km long line will connect Makambako and Songea via Madaba. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency is funding the project. Once complete, the transmission line will connect Rumuva to the national grid and reduce the power shortages experienced in the region. Apart from executing the Makambako–Songea line, TANESCO has constructed a power line to the Kabambe tea factory in Njombe.
