TCN restores two 330 kV transmission lines in Nigeria

State-owned Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored and energised two 330 kV transmission lines in the country, the second power transmission line from Jebba to Kainji, and the double-circuit transmission line from Ajaokuta to Gwagwalada. The second Jebba–Kainji line was unavailable for the last two years due to technical problems related to the Kainji end of the transmission line, whereas the Ajaokuta–Gwagwalada line was dysfunctional on account of the cut sky wire that tangled with conductors at towers 338 and 339. With rectification of both the 330 kV lines, TCN has increased the grid’s transmission capability and flexibility. Currently, the company has transmission line redundancy on both routes. Going forward, faults in any of the transmission lines on each line route will not interrupt power evacuation and transmission.
