Punjab has fixed the industrial power tariff rate at Rs 5 per unit for five years with effect from November 1, 2017, as part of the new Industrial and Business Development Policy, 2017. The move is aimed at providing an impetus to industrialisation and economic activity in the state.
The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission has notified a retail power supply tariff hike of 9.33 per cent for 2017-18 over the existing tariff. The hike will be effective retrospectively from April 1, 2017. The new tariffs are applicable for a period of three years. As per the new tariffs, the tariff for domestic consumers has been increased in the range of 7 to 12 per cent. For the industrial sector, the power tariff has been increased by 8.50 to 12 per cent, while for the commercial category, the electricity rates have been increased by 8-11 per cent.
