NTPC Limited has shut down the 500 MW Unit 6 of its Unchahar coal-fired plant in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, after an explosion in the boiler on November 1, 2017 affecting around 80 people. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) commissioned the unit in April 2017. NTPC has appointed an enquiry committee to submit a report on the incident within a month. The MoP has also constituted a committee to investigate the causes of the accident and suggest remedial measures to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
