Central government asks NTPC to use straw pellets in fuel mix to curb pollution in and around Delhi

In a bid to reduce pollution in Delhi and neighbouring states, the central government has asked NTPC Limited to use 10 per cent of straw pellets in its fuel mix. The utility will procure pellets from farmers in Punjab and Haryana. NTPC will soon float a tender for the procurement of the same and plans to offer an average price of Rs 5,500 per tonne. The pellets procured for power plants will be used in the future. The MoP intends to write to the state governments to impose a similar obligation on state-owned power generating units as well.
