Central government considers implementing  checks on foreign companies in Indian power sector

The central government is mulling over the setting up of a panel to formulate a framework for mandating checks and clearances on foreign companies investing in the Indian power sector. This comes following the malware attack on the eastern electricity grid that took place about two months ago. These foreign companies may have to undergo security clearances and employ Indian nationals at top managerial positions. The panel will study the recommendations of a report on cybersecurity prepared by the committee comprising members from the Central Electricity Authority, the ministries of power and commerce, and industry associations, and recommend the way forward.
