The Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency has commissioned the 1.5 MW Biaras small-hydro project in Jammu & Kashmir under the Prime Minister’s Ladakh Renewable Energy Initiative. The project entails a cost of Rs 170 million and is funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The power generated from the plant is expected to cater to around 1,000 families in the Drass town in Kargil district.
